Training offered by the Nunavut Literacy Council

What do we do?

The Nunavut Literacy Council offers facilitator training for community programs. We support communitybased programs that focus on language development and family and adult literacy. We help people in communities to develop the skills they need to deliver their own programs.

What is family literacy?

Family literacy is the way families show that oral language, reading and writing, culture and traditions are an important part of their daily lives. Family literacy happens naturally in daily life.

Everyday examples of family literacy include:

  • Sharing stories and singing songs
  • Teaching children traditional skills
  • Reading bedtime stories
  • Writing notes and grocery lists
  • Doing homework together
  • Talking about labels and signs
  • Drawing pictures
  • Writing letters and emails
  • Writing birthday cards

What kind of training do we offer?

The Nunavut Literacy Council offers program support and facilitator training in:

  • Family literacy & early language development
  • Tutor training
  • Proposal writing

  • Parenting and literacy training
